What's involved in refurbishing a sash window in a Victorian house?

Hi Dave, Quite difficult for an amateur, renewing the chords and weights and maybe the parting and staff beads ( the ones on the inside keeping the sashes in. They can now be made totally draught and rattle proof. If you get a tradesperson to do it might cost about £200/300 per window. If you are thinking of doing it yourself you can't do better than watch a tutorial on utube. Jc

Hi Dave it will depend on the condition of the window, an rot will need to be cut out and a new section spliced in. You may need new cords which will involve stripping the window down, it's also worthwhile removing any build up of paint that stops the sash running smoothly and adding draught proofing. Ed
