Timber subframes around aluminium windows

Posted by Andrew South, on
My house has some relatively new aluminium, double-glazed windows that were fitted into existing timber sub-frames by the previous owner. Some of the wooden frames and sills are rotten and need replacing. Can this be done without having to replace the whole window?

Hi Andrew small areas of rot can be cut out and new timber sections spliced in but if you need full sections replaced it would probably be best to replace the window as you would need to remove the aluminium casement. Ed
