Getting rid of second staircase

How difficult would it be to remove a second staircase and cover the old opening upstairs to create a larger landing?

Hi Eleri it should be relatively straight forward to remove the stairs as long as the newel post isn't providing support to the floor joists (post running from ground to first floor). Once stairs are remove its a matter of infilling joists and fitting floorboards. Ed
