Removing paint from wood

We are stripping paint from the hall stairs with a heat gun. It is removing the new paint however not do the same to original paint from many years ago. Any ideas? We hope to stain and satin varnish and have a lovely oak look to the hall.

Get the paint remover for diy shop and apply on the old paint leave it for couple of minuets after strip the paint out easily.
