Walnut work top

Posted by Jennifer Smith, on
I've recently had a new kitchen with walnut work top, things got put on before it was treated! Anyway now I've put on sealer that dame from B&Q not happy I wanted a nett finish. To me it needed sanding first, also a few water marks. Can I lightly sand to get rid of water marks if so what with?

Sometime water damage if it's deep it won't go.but do good sanding with fine sandpaper first after clean it up properly and after you can apply the work top oil on it.

Hi jennifer If you have sealed over the top of marks th en you will need to sand back to bare wood and start again, starting with a 120 grit sand paper sand the top back to bare then use finer grades a of paper to get a very fine finish, wipe the surface with methalayted spirits then sand again before applying the new finish as per the instructions. Make sure you use sand paper not oxide paper or wire wool these can leave bits in the surface that rust and turn black in time. This isn't the easiest job to do so best luck Martin
