What is the legal minimum gap between spindles on a staircase?

Hi Graeme Buiding regs state you should not be able to fit a100mm sphere between spindles/newel post, so 99mm is the maximum permitted. To my knowledge there is no minimum gap. Ed

Hi Graeme. The minimum gap between any spindle is 100mm at the widest part of the profile. This is to stop a child getting there head stuck between the spindles. Some spindles when we fit are tapered in places. Because of this, I generally fit at 90mm for piece of mind.
