Fitting internal moulded door

Posted by Adam Khalid, on
How much can I trim off width-wise as frame is not wide enough. The door is a moulded door from wickes with measurements of 1981mm x 838mm x 35mm. My existing frame is only 822mm. A handyman has had a look and advised me not to cut the door to size as it wouldn't look very nice or may not be strong enough to hold the hinges after cutting. Instructions advise a maximum of 10mm can be cut off the door in height or width. Your expertise would be appreciated.

Yes you are limited with what you can remove from moulded doors as they are hollow internally, if you need to remove this much you could look at a solid (pine) door and then trim this and paint accordingly.
