Carpentry

Posted by Ross Stuart, on
I live in a listed building with ill-fitting windows, which I can have repaired but nor replaced with something different. Almost four years ago a carpenter known to me said that he would take on the job but he has retired. For each panel there are two windows, the larger below that opens outward and to 90 degrees from the sill and the smaller above that pushes out. With one exception, the previous owner rather than repair the windows has nailed the upper window shut and I would like to be able to use them. There are two of these downstairs and five upstairs. As all windows are single glazed, I would like the windows to be tighter and possibly to arrange some sort of double glazing. Again four years ago I inquired into soundproofing as it is an old building and I am on the top two floors. I contacted a firm in London who came up with a list of all that I would need and it would be a question of getting a quote on that work. The kitchen is a small galley type with limited cupboard space. I would like to put in possibly two more cupboards and have some work done on the plastering. Finally, in the bedrooms I need the only cupboard repaired and wondered what it might cost to have some fitted cupboards and drawers.

What would you like to do now?
