Installing a threshold

A tradesperson carried out some poor work on our flooring, resulting in about an inch difference in height from the kitchen flooring to the hallway flooring. We now have a slight step down from the kitchen to the hallway. What is the best tool to install a threshold to stop people tripping up over the height difference?
