Barn conversion

Posted by Chris Havemann, on
I have a 17th century barn, in very poor condition, that needs renovating to be used as a summer letting property. What type of tradesmen should I contract to help me with this?

Hi David You need a normal builder who has a sound carpentry background, done let people scare monger you into thinking its a specialist job and charge a lot of money, I've worked on plenty there quite straight forward Good Luck

Chris, I'm guessing you will need a specialist contractor that can deal with conservation and restoration. A good stonemasonry contractor is a good place to start who would direct you in making the barn wind and water tight and also sort out and structural problems that may have occurred . Then you can think a about internal works. A new house builder is not the contractor you are after as they more than likely do not carry out specialist works. Advice can be sought at e d I n b u r g h s t o n e c raft . F r e e I n d e x c o . Uk Regards, Dave
