if the damp on my gable end wall is due to rainwater penetration, does it mean i have a leak in the roof? or is it rising from below ? how do i solve it?

If it is rain water penetration, it is not a roof problem. Water is getting into the wall by its external surface. Damp from the ground can only 'rise' to 1m

Rain water penetration can be solved by painting the render or if it is brick work, siloxane silicone penetrating liquid.
