Is it ok / possible to cover internal upvc cladding with plasterboard?

My home has 1970s style upvc cladding beneath the living room window (inside and out). I have noticed that there is a draft coming in through the joints so I wanted to cover the internal part with plaster board to insulate the room better. Is this possible? Would there be issues with damp?
