New wall has been plastered - Damp has risen up to a metre high

Posted by Zac Thorne, on
A while ago we had an old chimney stack plastered on the basement level (bathroom) and the damp has risen up to a metre high. Now the damp is showing signs of salt and it's corroding the metal plaster beads. The chimney stack used to be covered by a cupboard and the wall was dry lined. Obviously the guy didn't use any damp proof materials. What's the best way of dealing with this? We try ventilating the bathroom as much as possible but as it's basement level i'm sure the water tables have something to do with it?

It could be many problems causing this . I could help if you gave me more details ? eg photos. It might be a good idea to get a good builder in your area to look
