I own a terraced cobb cottage with rising damp problems and flagstone floors laid directly on to soil. I want to know the best way of preventing the rising damp going up the walls and water seeping up through the joints between the flagstones during bad weather. I also have to consider treatment to the party walls very carefully, as I have neighbours either side and don't want any remedial works in my property, having a bad impact in their properties (eg. if my inner walls are tanked up to 1m high and the floors have a damp proof membrane fitted, would this mean that party walls would get damper on the other side?).
