Plasterboard is falling away as i strip the wallpaper

Posted by Chris Harrison, on
Some parts of the plasterboard is coming away as i strip the walls. i'm using a steamer and for most parts it's fine. However, certain areas seem weak and appear to have 'bubbled'. We have just moved into the house so i have no knowledge of the quality of the previous work. I've stopped for the moment as i don't want to risk damaging more of the wall. Thoughts?

gyproc walls should only be stripped as a last resort with a steam stripper as they often do more damage than good. Reason being is that if the gyproc has not been sealed with Drywall Primer Sealer then holding the steamer just that little bit too long on the gyproc will result on damaging the face of the gyproc. May I suggest just using soapy luke warm water for doing this job giving the paper a good couple of soaks or maybe more allowing time for it to soak in. Not the easiest of jobs tho good luck, John, Brown Decorators
