Painting straight lines

Posted by william butler, on
Whenever i'm painting i have problems with masking tape. do professional decorators use masking tape whilst painting, our ceiling is to be white and walls blue, the masking tape i've used in the past peels of the paint underneath when removing tape. if not using tape, what method do you use to keep straight lines?

Is not necessary to use masking tape all the times but sometimes it makes the job easy and the line will look much better than with no tape especially when the ceiling is white and walls are painted with strong colours. Use Tesa pink masking tape that is the best for the walls, doesn't pull the paint off.

use a good 2 1/2" brush. When standing on the step ladder try to get eye level with the line. Load the brush up with paint dabbing excess off inside the paint kettle, don't go straight into the line, brush off just under the line so you don't get blobs of paint ruining the line. Position your brush and apply pressure until the edge meets the line you require. The pressure you put on is the key, too hard is not effective, too soft there will be movement that will cause waves. Just right you should achieve a good line. Confidence to move the brush relatively fast will produce a better line also. (don't use synthetic brushes as they are too springy) Hope this helps

hi most profesional painters are skilled enough to get straight lines freehand.but if you do need to use tape use frog tape most diy stores carry this.as long as you are using emulsion paint this will be fine but if using oil based paints this tape wont work
