Advice on staining or varnishing stairs and bannister

I've stripped and sanded very old paint work on stairs, bannisters and hand rail and am now ready to stain/varnish.
I want the colour of stair treads, bannister and handrail to match, so I'm looking for best procedures to get the right finish.
Should I buy a stain that will colour all woodwork and then buy a different product to finish each element?
Is there a singular product that I could use on all elements that would be suitable?
