Painted white gloss on metal - forgot primer. Will it dry ok?

Hi, I made an almighty fudge up today - I've just painted steel pipework (approx. 3m length) with white gloss to enable it to blend with my skirting board. I didn't realise I was supposed to use primer first. My question is - will I get away with this? Will the gloss dry ok, or will I need to somehow remove the paint and start again?
