Remove wallpaper from plaster wall

Posted by Hilda Tse, on
Is it possible to remove painted textured wallpaper from plaster wall and ceiling? Does it worth the effort? We want smooth painted finish on the wall and ceiling, one guy suggest just placing new plaster board over the existing wall and ceiling and paint over. I am a bit concern about the weight bearing issue though, and the moist that might trap in between...

hi Hilda it is possible to remove the textured paper, the paint needs perforating so the steam can get in. its not an easy job but more cost effective than over boarding. strip a test wall, even when you have the paper off the walls may still need skimming dependant on how flat and smooth you want them. over boarding will need plastering all the skirting will have to come off, along with the architrave and any coving.
