How to emulsion a bathroom which has new plaster
Andrew Jobe

Andrew Jobe

Hi Stephen, Before applying top/finish coats of emulsion you'll need to give the plaster a "mist" coat. This is basically a coat of watered down Matt emulsion. The mix should be around 3 parts paint to 1 part water or 75% paint and 25% water although this depends on the viscosity of the emulsion. As a guide it should resemble single cream. This will bond to the plaster instead of forming a skin which can peal especially in damp areas such as bathrooms. Once dry you can lightly sand with 120 grit sandpaper before applying top coats. I recommend Dulux bathroom paint to finish. Hope that helps
