You would only give them a key if you feel you can trust them in the house on there own if not you can be around when the work is getting done just try keep out there way. When I go out to a private job I don't expect the customer to leave there house when the works getting done If the house is empty they might just want the key to work a bit later so they don't have to wait about on someone coming to open up for them I hope this can help
