I have had a visit from one of the tradesman on your site and have accepted their quote. They have asked me to deposit £400 deposit in an account, details of which were sent via email . Is this common practice

Dear David, I am a decorator on this site, and upon acceptance I do take a small holding deposit ( usually £50/£100) to secure the dates booked. £400.00 does sound a little extreme as a deposit. However tradesman will vary , some will take a deposit and some wont, check the trades ratings and what people have said about them previously, you should be able to get a good idea of the service you will receive from them.
