Deposit given but excuses stopping work

Hi, I've gone with one of your recommendations. Confirmed quote and paid a £400 deposit on a job with £1600 bill. Work is due to start but tradesman appears to be making excuses and doesn't look like he'll be starting the job anytime soon... How do I get my money back?
