Lining paper bubbling as painting with emulsion

Posted by Richard Hammond, on
Hi, my son has roped me in to decorate a room. Has put lining paper on plaster wall as wants "warm to touch" feel. Painted on first base coat of cheap emulsion and lots of bubbles! Suspect wall not sized adequately and paper not pasted thoroughly! Bubbles disappear though as paint dries and walls look great again. My questions: should I cut, reglued bubbles etc after painting top coats, or is it best to just leave them to dry out naturally. Cutting and reposting does spoil finish. Should I size any other plaster walls with trade contract emulsion, or is it best to size with an oil based paint? Any help much appreciated as want to make sure it's a good job! Richard

You should size plaster walls before papering with either wallpaper paste or pva glue When you’ve lined the walls The paper sometimes will bubble if you’ve not let the paper dry first also If the bubbles have completely dried back you’ve got away with it the will bubble up with next coat but will dry back if the done that the first time
