Mounting a grab bar to shower tile, not a stud.

Posted by Ross Guldenbrein, on
I think our tile shower is backed with 'cement board'. I'd like to mount a grab bar but can't find a stud using my magnetic 'stud finder'. Can I use just the kind of hardware that's used to mount things in sheet rock? Like those 'toggle' type screw and nut things?

Use Hollow wall anchors, I think that what you have described. They expand behind tiles and gyprock as you screw them. Better to get a stud, if you can, but these should do the job. make sure to get the right depth ones, too big and they wont work same with too small. Screw fix or similar will have them.
