When winning a job what deposit can I ask for in advance to cover materials

Hi Sam I personally never ask for a deposit on any job, a trader should be able to finance the work they are undertaking. Larger jobs are divided into stage payments. Ed

Hello Mr Dymond, My usual practice is to ask for a 30% Deposit to confirm the booking and go towards materials, followed by a 40% Stage payment during the project and then a final payment of 30% when the job is complete and the customer is happy.

Anything over £500 I normally ask for 45% upfront to cover materials. Also get a signed contract before works. Iv had it to many times where the customer has pulled out after forking out for materials. Everyone is different and has different views. It's entirely up to you.
