Holes in wall following installation of heating

Posted by Lynsey Bull, on
I had a timer fitted to a heated towel rail in my bathroom by an electrician. They have left two holes in the plasterboard wall where they fitted the cabling. They measure 8cm long by 3cm width. I wanted to know if Its safe to use pollyfilla in these holes? They also seem a bit large to use filler in. Also the cables seem to protrude over hole slightly and I can't push them back in as they are in front of a metal post. Thank you

Hello Yes it is safe to use a filler or adhesive e.g. Painters mate. If the holes are quite large you may need to insert and screw a piece of timber or board in the back to stop the filler falling into the hole. This can also be done with a mesh or similar to enable the filler to stay in place. You will likely have to fill the hole in 2 stages as it can fall out if to heavy a coat is applied in one go. Hope this helps, if I can be of any more assistance please ask. Best Regards Greg Maclachlan Ugauge Ltd

Get the electrician back to sort wire out, so that it does not stuck out, then you will need to use some plasterboard to repair hole as too big for just filler. If you don’t mind a small bump then you can get plaster repair patches that you apply and use filler over the top. These are stocked in bq and most diy retailers. Hope this helps
