We’ve just knocked through behind an old gas fire and opened up a space in the chimney breast (fully supported with a lintel). Our long term aim is to put in a fake wood burning stove (electric) that looks the part in the space, but short term it will just be a space to put a nice basket of logs. The trouble is, at the moment we have an empty brick hole. Although supported and square, we’d like to get it plastered and boarded around the inside to neaten it up. Do we have to use a special plaster/board? I have tried looking everywhere and can’t find anything other than people putting in actual log burners!
