Hi Taj, The crackling sound is arcing (electricity jumping) between two points, due to either a loose or poor connection of the cables to the switch or faulty switch contacts. Arcing causes heat and a carbon build up at the contact point. The carbon will make the contact worse and more arcing and heat will occur - this will continue to get worse over time if left as it is and could potentially catch fire due to the heat build up. I recommend that you stop using the lights in that room and contact a local electrician ASAP to get the issue resolved.
