It should be hard wired into a double pole switch. You could also wire in a timer to the circuit. It should have its own circuit, not wired into a socket circuit, because of the large load. regards Andrew
Why has the plug melted on my immersion heater

I have a 3kw immersion heater fitted with a plug and plugged into a timer in a wall socket(fitted by electrician). Is this incorrect as the plug has melted.

Hi Todd It melted because was overloaded possibly someone connect to socket circut. I would suggest to get electrician back to sort it out Regards Rafal
