Replacing fuse point with Socket?

Posted by Jacqueline Levett, on
We have a gas cooker which we need to plug into a socket to run the ignition and timer, currently it is plugged into a socket on the wall. For the sake of tiding up a bit, we would like to get a plug point put in behind the cooker (there are two fuse points behind the cooker) I’ve just had the kitchen redone and the joiner has said that it would be possible to remove one of the fuse points and replace with a double socket (need to plug in dishwasher as well) BUT we would need to upgrade the main fuse box to a 32amp 1. Does this sound correct 2. Can this be done? Thanks

It's not great to have hard to reach electrical fittings behind a hot gas appliance if you can avoid it. However in theory it does sound feasible. I'm not sure why or if the circuit breaker or fuse on the board would need upgrading. Is it a consumer unit or a fuseboard? Does it have RCD protection already? It would be good to know what else is powered on the same circuit as these fused connection units. Sorry I cannot give an absolute answer without seeing it. Hope this helps. Andy
