Single Spur, Connect a single oven?

Posted by Peter Blyth, on
Hi Just bought a replacement single oven and had a electrician out to look at installing it. he said that as my kitchen has only a single Spur for the hob and oven under current regulations he would not install it. Is this correct? I bought the property in 2004 and replaced the oven and hob around 2008 using a electrician with no issues. Regards Peter

Your cooker hob,if electric will be too powerful to be wired into a fused spur.It should have its own dedicated circuit, wired in 6mm twin and earth cable into a isolation switch. A lot of modern ovens can be wired into a 13a socket outlet but you would need to check the rating. Check the rating of both the hob and oven.It may be shown in watts or kilo watts (KW) Post the info back on this page and we can take it from there Hope this helps Russ
