Electric audit on old property

Posted by Susan Southern, on
I am about to a buy a very (+ 500 years) old property. The electricity certificate has run out and we have been advised to seek an audit of the electrics. Is this really necessary and what could such an audit tell us and what should it involve?

HI Susan This is called an Electrical Condition Inspection Report or ECIR for short. Basically the electrician will check the condition of your electrics by carrying out visual checks then carry out a variety of electrical tests including testing individual circuits. He will also remove a percentage of switches/socket fronts etc This will give you an ideal if anything is unsafe or likely to cause you issues in the short term. Very advisable to have this carried out. He will give you a report at the end of the inspection. This could contain C1 or C2 which would be a fail.Any C3's found would just be recommendations. Cost wise your are prob looking at possibly 150 dependent upon size of property. You can find me on Facebook if you are in Lancashire and I would gladly carry this out for you Hope this helps Russ
