Power keeps tripping

Posted by Sophie Whittall, on
Power keeps tripping in the house. Has done it 5 times today. No new electrical demands and no new appliances. Any advice on where to start or what could be going on?

Hi Sophie, If the RCD is tripping you will need to turn all the mcbs of and turn them back on one by one to identify which circuit is causing it to trip.Once you have found the individual circuit say, downstairs sockets is tripping. You then need to unplug all items plugged in and put them in one by one to see which appliance is the case. These probs can be very easy or very hard to sort and you need patience to find em sometimes Might be an idea to get an electrician out . He will have equipment to test your circuits and will prob find the cause fairly quickly for you Hope this helps Russ

Hi Sophie . Start investigation and recognise which circuit can affect rest of circuits . Light circuit off and wait for results - tripping or not ? If no , same do it with socket circuit . If you got garden lights - worth to check . How old your circuits ? If over ten years old should be checked and tested by electrician . If you from London I can help . Find me on web.
