Improving Hall & Stairs Lighting

Posted by James Toon, on
Our hallway and landing is lit by energy efficient spotlights. (max of 11W). The light they give is insufficient and they are also very slow to brighten. Do we need to replace the sockets (7/8 years old) or can we simply replace with a brighter bulb? (LED?)

Hi James You can get LED bulbs for all type of light fittings these days. A rough guide is 4w LED is roughly a 40w but I would tend to go for a slightly higher wattage in LED as its a different type of light and if your saying its a bit dark i would perhaps go for a 6w Check the Lumen output of the LED.The higher the lumen output, the brighter the lamp Without seeing the type of fitting you currently have its hard to say but I'm sure you will be able to get a lamp to fit. I replaced 4 x50w halogens in my kitchen light fitting with 4 x 4.5 w LED cool white bulbs and they are really bright Hope this helps a little Russ
