Old style fuse box upgrade

Posted by Gavin Evans, on
I have a really old style fusebox, which still uses fuse wire in little ceramic cartridges. I'd be keen to modernise this, as we will be selling soon and don't want people to be put off, but is it true that in replacing the old fuse box, an electrician would be obliged to ensure that the wiring/electrics are also brought up to current standards (this is in Scotland if that makes a difference)? Many thanks for any advice

Hi Gavin If the fuse box/consumer unit needs upgrading he would still need to upgrade the earthing to current standards as a minimum. He would also need to carry out electrical tests on the whole installation and give you an electrical installation certificate for the job when complete. The only thing about being in scotland is the job is not notifiable under Part P of building regs Thanks Russ
