Hi Any new work carried out must meet the current wiring regulations which states RCD protection where cables are buried less than 50mm in the wall.If they are on the surface in trunking then you would be ok. Also no alteration or addition can also be carried out without verifing the current earthing arrangement incl bonding,which is gas+water is upto standard so from what you have said in your post it sounds right.
