Trip switch for lights went off

Posted by Nikki T, on
In the past I have switched it back on and discovered a light bulb has blown-new bulb and problem solved. On this occasion it is the downstairs lighting switch that went off. The problem is when I put the trip switch back on, the trip switch stays on, but the lights don't come on. The upstairs lights and mains wired smoke alarms (on separate trip switches) are also off despite their respective trip switches still being on. Possibly relevant, all these trips are on the right side of the consumer unit (red writing here states they are not RCD protected) It's past midnight and I don't feel safe up and down ladders with no lights to check the bulbs until daylight. My concern is the upstairs lights/smoke alarms also being off but trip switches remaining on. Could it still just be a dodgy bulb downstairs? or should I be calling out a professional?
