Reuse economy 7 circuits

Posted by Adam Ellis, on
I currently have a number of storage heaters in my home, however I have a standard electrical meter (no economy 7 tariff). The units still only work during the economy 7 times. I want to replace these with new electric panel radiators that I can turn on whenever. Is it possible for me to reuse the circuits from the consumer units to the storage heaters? I need to get the consumer unit changed due to its age, so I was thinking I may be able to get those circuits switched to be connected to the incoming cable that is on all the time. Thanks Adam

The night only supply is switched from the meter, so cant understand why you say you have standard meter. As you say, you can pull the wires to the heaters from the E7 board over into the standard board and they are on 24/7. An alternative is you can have your own timeswitch and contactor (relay) fitted so you can control the times when heating is on. obviously only charged at E7 rates during the night but useful for giving E7 heaters a boost.

Hi Adam Yeah this is possible to do with minor electrical alteration work. There will prob be a timeclock somewhere which switches those units on during off peak time. We would just need to rewire the tails from the off peak consumer unit to the main tails. If your in Lancashire you can find me on Facebook and i can arrange this for you Thanks Russ
