Disguising a fuse box

Posted by Will Jones, on
We have just had a new consumer unit installed. It is flush to the wall with the switches accessible under a raised panel. We're looking to disguise the unit as much as possible and I wondered if it is possible to paint the unit or wallpaper it, not covering up the raised panel so that the switches are still accessible. Thanks.

Hi Will Can you not box it in where the box can be removed if needed? I certainly wouldn't paint it or def not recommend wallpapering it as this could be a fire hazard. The cables inside the unit do get warm under load so papering over the consumer unit casing is a no no Try asking a joiner to build you something nice that will hide it but can be moved if required for access Hope this helps Russ
