Connecting a pond filter and pump

Posted by Rosemary Gurney, on
I've just had a pond renovated. It has a new pump and filter that needs connecting to the power supply. There is an external power source approx. 15m away. I have the switch too but not yet purchased the armoured cable. What size job is it to connect the parts and how much should I expect to pay? Thanks

Hi Rosemary, Only a switch is not enough to supply the power to that pump. You have to spur off, off a ring main, an RCD protected socket (or a Fused Connection Unit) where to connect that armored cable, then that armored cable needs to be run under the ground or (ideally) clipped onto a wall then terminated into a weatherproof connections box and then a flexible cable needs to be run from that box to the transformer of the pump. That connections box can also accommodate the pump's transformer. The armored cable can be replaced with a tough weather resistant flexible cable if it will be clipped onto a wall or fence and it will be visible all the way to the junction box. It's difficult to give you an estimate of the job if I can't see the actual site. Regards, Cornelius Cretu
