Spot lights

Posted by Steve Domb, on
Lighting in bathroom I have 1 bathroom and 1 en-suite when I bought the flat I didn't realize that the lighting was concealed in the ceiling so when the bulbs goes I have to take the sealant off take the bulb out as there is a glass cover covering the bulbs I then have to replace and reseal which is a nuisance as I make a mess with the sealant, would it be possible to change the design so I could just change the bulbs when they go?

Hi Steve, As an alternative for the sealant, you can use some downlight converters. Just google "downlight converters" and you will see some sort of an metal edge which can be mounted on top of your downlights which can cover the gaps left between the downlights and the ceiling. You have to make sure the converters you are going to buy fit your steam proof downlights. If you want to replace the current downlights with others, make sure the new ones have the outer bezel slightly bigger to cover the hole. Thanks, Cornelius Cretu

Hi Steve Dependant on how close to the bath/shower the light is it will be an IP rated fitting which is designed to keep out any moisture. Sounds like an old fitting which has been bodged up. Just get it replaced with a more modern type. These are really easy to replace bulbs. If you fit an LED bulb in the fitting you can forgot about changing bulbs regular because they last a lot longer. Thanks Russ
