Moving Main Fuse Box

Posted by Gaynor Pringle, on
How long does it take to move a fuse box 1 metre.

Hi, Instead of extending the meter tails (the thick conductors which run from the meter to the consumer unit) you can simply replace them with longer ones (not you personally but an qualified electrician) The existing fuse board can be replaced with a Gewiss box (or similar enclosure) where you can neatly extend all the outgoing cables (like my colleague previously suggested) and then the extended cables can be run in a plastic trunking to the relocated consumer unit. The whole process shouldn't take longer than 8 hours, including the testing of each circuit before energizing the relocated consumer unit. Hope this helps, Cornelius Cretu

Hi It would depend on if the outgoing cables have enough length on to allow moving. If not they would need to be jointed and extended. The installation would need to be tested prior to be moved. I would allow 4 to 6 hrs. The electrician would not be able to move the main electriciity board fuse if this needs moving also Thanks Russ
