BUZZING noise in isolator switch

Posted by Gerry Smith, on
A 4 switch isolator serving my oven, hobb, extractor hood and washing machine that 'Ben Pattersson of BDPElectrical' fitted is making buzzing noises when switched on and appliances not in use. The buzzing is coming from the switch itself not appliances. As Ben agreed to come and fix the problem but has since chosen to ignore my calls, I am here to ask what the problem might be and how serious it might be. Would be grateful for any advice, thank in advance!

Hi Alex, Is that a buzzing, fizzing or crackling noise ? If it's the last two, then there's a loose connection in one of the switches ( or the screw bite onto the sheath of the wire instead of the copper). If it's a buzzing noise, then the switch itself might be faulty (or if there's a neon light that could do the buzzing noise) In order to find out where the noise is coming from, you have to bypass the switches one by one. Start with the oven's switch. Regards, Cornelius Cretu

Hi Alex Did you get Ben from Rated People? If you did then you can contact RP and explain the situation and they should be able to help you It may be a faulty unit or a loose connection but I would prob get it looked at sooner rather than later to be on the safe side. Hope this helps Russ
