Replace fault ring main cable.

Posted by J G, on
I have a fault that trips the MCB on my kitchen sockets from my new consumer unit. I have found the fault to be on a feed between the consumer unit to the first socket, this goes somewhere under the floor too much damage to fix. I have disconnected the faulty section and the MCB stays reset. To reduce fees,i am going to fit a new cable via a different route to complete the ring again so i can use the sockets.. ready for an electrician to reconnect to the consumer board. What size cable do i need to use for a kitchen ring main?

Hi J, Usually, in a domestic property, the ring main is wired in 2.5mm2 twin and earth flat cable and is terminated in a 32Amp MCB. I don't know how that circuit is wired in hour house, but you should use the exact same size as the other leg of the ring which is not affected by the fault. Hope this helps, Cornelius Cretu
