New cooker point or extending the wiring?

Posted by Joanna Burton, on
If I wish to move the electric cooker with ceramic hobs from one wall of the kitchen to another - to gain space - do I need to install a new cooker point or can the wire already there between cooker and socket, be extended? - a metre or a metre and a half - not more.? The socket is on rather than in the wall and the wire seems to join it through the wall or channelling - it was updated 2 years ago. How much would either job be? Thank you

Hi Joanna, You can extend the cable but you have to keep the access to the connection where you joined the cables. You also have to take into account the fact that you'll increase the length of the cable so the voltage drop will also increase. The cable needs to be sunk into the wall and another cooker outlet needs fitted behind the cooker in the new location. Hope this helps.
