Hi David, You can add 4 more sockets to that circuit if you wire the new sockets within the existing ring. It doesn't matter where you break into the circuit as long as you keep the same topology of the circuit, which is usually a ring. You have to also take into account the total load of the circuit and assess if it can take further alterations. Regards, This is definitely a job only an electrician can do.

David, and yes, as Russell quite correctly said it all depends on how the socket you intended to take the power from is itself a spur from somewhere else. Regards Steve

Hi David, In short NO, connecting 4 extra double sockets to a single socket in that way would be a dangerous fire risk as the socket would be very overloaded. please do not connect extra sockets in this way. When adding extra sockets to an existing system the wiring regulations make clear there are there are 4 basic ways of doing it. 1, An unfused spur - you can add just one double socket taking power from an existing socket. 2, A fused Spur - by adding a 13amp fuse after the socket that the power is being taken from you can actually add as many sockets as you like after that onto the fused spur... however, the obvious practicality of this is that the maximum total current that can be plugged into the fused spur is 13 amps. this method is only suitable where low currents are to be expected. 3, Extending the existing ring main circuit to include the new sockets.. This is not something that should be attempted without the use of proper testing equipment to first ensure the existing ring main is able to be extended. The incorrect extending of a ring main will cause the safety devices in the distribution board (Fuse box) to cut the power to the affected circuit. 4, Adding a new ring main to supply power to the new sockets - This is not something you should attempt if you are not qualified to undertake. If you have any doubts if you are qualified to undertake the work or you are unsure how it should be done please do consult a qualified electrician. I hope this helps Regards Steve

Hi David, You will first need to know if that socket is wired as a ring circuit and isnt a spur from somewhere else before doing anything. It would also depend on what you plan to use the extra 4 sockets for.Best thing would be to get an electrician to look at it for you. Hope this helps Russ
