Electrical certificate

Posted by Belinda Booth, on
I had a bathroom extension built 5 years ago and have just discovered the builder did not get a completion certificate from the local council planning department. I have been informed that the electrical certificate is required before it can be signed off, the builder is not willing to help me. What can I do as I need this as I am now selling my home

Hi Belinda The only person who can give you an Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) for the job is the electrician who installed or tested the job when it was carried out.As this wasnt done and the job was 5 years ago you would prob get away with getting an electrical condition inspection report (ECIR) carried out. This covers the whole of the electrical installation and not just the extension and is quiet an in depth process.Prob cost in the region of 150 to 200 pound for a full thorough report and can be passed onto the buyer to prove to them the installation is up to current standards. Hope this helps Russ
