Recessed downlights

Posted by emily swift-jones, on
Hi I am fitting out a new studio and once again find new downlighter options. Can you please tell me the difference/benefit of 12v LED using a transformer V mains LED with built-in converters (AU-UNIF861)?

Hi Emily, The 12 Volt LED bulbs (MR16) are more expensive than the mains ones (GU10). Also not all MR16 LED bulbs are fully compatible with the halogen transformers especially if they are dimmable ones. Costs of maintaining, replacing are bigger (you need an electrician to replace the transformer for you in case it fails). With GU10 LED bulbs you can replace the bulbs yourself. The downside of the mains bulbs is that you can't use them above showers, saunas, etc. unless the fitting is waterproof. Regards,
