Heat alarm location

Posted by Nirpal Ghataurhae, on
Is it suitable to have a heat alarm above an electric hob and just 15-20 cm to the side so its not 'directly' above it? Should it be wired with three core to communicate with heat alarm and smoke alarms on the upper floor considering there is another kitchen above with free access?

if you are a landlord you are better getting electrician to install it with the correct regulations, you wil be able to get cost to interlink them also.

Hi Nirpal, All the smoke detectors and heat detectors in the same house/flat should be interlinked but they can also be radio linked not necessarily hard wired. The detection range of a heat detector is about 5 meters so it can be mounted anywhere in the kitchen as long is 500mm away from any obstructions (like walls, beams, etc.) and at least 300mm away from any light fitting. Also make sure is not close to fans or in the way of ventilation paths (between a window and a fan). Regards,

Bs5389 are the regulations for smoke-heat detectors Any smoke or heat detectors must be interlinked Its not advisable to install a heat detector directly above a heat source, usually they are installed within a metre of the light fitting away from the cooker
